Why can't flash be pencil tests dang it!

Dirk is property of Bluth Studios (from Dragon's Lair).

We were given six poses of Dirk pulling out his sword and taking a swing. We needed to animate 6 feet of footage.
To break down the math for those unfamiliar with feet in terms of animtion:

1 foot =16 frames
6 feet= 96 frames = 48 drawings (on 2s)

If you pay real close attention, you can spot the frames that aren't mine because my initials in the top left corner disappear on those frames.

Gary Goldman particularly liked the pull back/anticipation before the swing.

***
Don't know why, but it seems to stick near the beginning (at least on the browser I'm on) once it cycles the animation and that isn't the case in the flash file I imported (an re-imported). Hopefully the "stick" isn't happening for everyone.

He swings his sword like a baseball bat. XD Not bad for fighting dragons I guess, not so good for fighting an experienced swordsman.

This is really good. I like how realistic his movements are, really smooth.

niiice work, and you fixed the back foot in the turn. i still remember the comment you made about the backpack, ha!
:iconzaree-nilerabanwen:
Well, in my defense, it was rough when you saw it and I hadn't cleaned the foot up yet ^_-
I know, I like the "swooshiness"

lol, I knew you would comment on that.
Everyone on class made comments on how either he is holding the sword wrong or that he swings it oddly.

I actually went and changed one of the poses we were given because his hands were swapped on the sword (oops!).

Comment from Gary: "Perhaps because I'm looking at the sheath because you needed to fix that it didn't move enough... but now it seems to move a little too much. It reminds me of something that Frank (Thomas) said to me when he handed me a scene from Robin Hood where Robin was in disguise and had a flower in his hat. Frank wanted me to animate the flower onto the character, but warned me 'You better NOT upstage my character."

Just had to share that quote.
